JUDGE SCHOOL FOR ARRANGEMENTS
For a deeper perspective, you can review exactly what judges look for at the show!
Judge school for arrangements, PART 1-3:
Some tips & reminders:
-
If you have any roses in your garden, you can harvest them a few days before the show at their peak of exhibition form, and put them in the refrigerator. Please take notes of the names of any rose you bring from home!
-
If you do not think you will be able to bring your own roses, there will be extra roses at the show early in the morning. Please arrive early. (Saturday October 25th)
-
In deciding what kind of arrangement to try, consider:
-
is there a specific kind of container you want to use
-
do you want to use particular colors or filler plants
-
read through the classes of 'romantic' arrangements in the schedule: which themes look fun to you?
-
Make sure you read the class requirements for the arrangement you choose to try. If you have any questions about rules, containers needed, etc, email me at orionarioch@gmail.com
-
-
If you have your own garden grown roses, you can pre-make your bouquet and bring it to the show.
-
You can also make an arrangement with florist roses and your filler plants. Then take a picture of it or bring it to the show and replace the florist roses with garden-grown roses. This gives you the option of taking your time in the comfort of your home to make the perfect arrangement & just tweaking it at the show!
-
All roses in the final arrangement MUST be garden grown and the tag must have the proper name of the rose. Any florist roses or unnamed roses brought on the day of the show, can go to the mini bouquets to sell, but will not be in a final rose show arrangement. Filler flowers and greenery can be store bought. Buying extra roses and filler flowers and foliage is a great way to donate to the mini bouquets we sell at the show!
-
Remember, you will have help in the morning to guide you on finishing and tagging your arrangement. Please arrive early enough to finish by 9am, so that you can address any finishing touches before arrangements must be placed for judging. I suggest coming to setup between 6-7am.
here are the steps to make a beautiful arrangement for the show:
1) Read the ARS guidelines for arrangements and review the types of arrangement styles from the resources provided above.
2) Select the Class you would like to try from our show schedule.
3) Get some flowers from your garden or a local store (resources below) and some vases or containers you like.
4) Practice making a bouquet in your chosen style (mass or line, traditional or modern, East Asian or miniature).
4) Bring filler plants and containers or vases to the rose show. If you have roses available from your own garden in October, wonderful! If not, there WILL be roses for you to use on the morning of the show so don't worry!
